Dragons catching fire with postseason looming

The Eastern Midland Conference Tournament started Tuesday with the Class B No. 10 Dragons taking on sixth-ranked Norris. The EMC tourney will be a good measuring stick for Gretna with top teams in No. 1 Elkhorn, No. 3 Elkhorn South and No. 4 Blair also all in the mix for the conference crown.
Gretna 3, Plattsmouth 2 - The Dragons scored all three runs in the third inning, paced by ReAnn Schrenier's two-run double.
Alexa Sedlak added three hits with two doubles and Kamryn Horner added a pair of hits.
Mikayla Kuhl scattered four hits while striking out 11 to pick up the win on the mound.
Gretna 8, Westside 3 - Gretna scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to run away with the win.
Lexi Burkhead legged out a double and triple and Brooke Smith drove in two runs on two hits to lead the offense. Ady Watts scored a pair of runs and had two hits.
Kuhl had another strong complete-game performance with eight strikeouts.
Gretna 10, Nebraska City 0 - Watts drove in three runs on two hits while Katie Gasper added two RBIs and three runs scored in the victory.
Schreiner knocked a double as one of two hits and Jayden Wood added two RBIs.
Burkhart nabbed the win in the circle with eight strikeouts.
Gretna 6, Gross 3 - Gretna jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a three-run dinger by Smith on the way to the Dragon triumph Saturday.
Kuhl and Burkhart each added an RBI while Kuhl struck out 11 Cougars on the mound.
Kayla Johnk drove in two runs with a home run for the Cougars with Katy Miller adding three hits and an RBI.

  • Papillion-La Vista and Bellevue West both took part in the Lincoln Southeast Invite at the Doris Bair Softball Complex Saturday.

The Monarchs went 3-0 while the Thunderbirds finished 1-2.
Papillion-La Vista hit eight home runs in the three games to push its season home run total to 48, breaking the Nebraska team record of 45 by Papillion-La Vista South in 2012.
Lincoln Southeast Invite results:
Papillion-La Vista 6, Lincoln North Star 5 - The Navigators made it interesting with four runs in the sixth to cut it to a one-run lead but Papio held for the win.
Amanda Butera had two hits including a two-run home run to lead the Monarch offense. Courtney Wallace and Jordan Van Roy each added two hits.
Papillion-La Vista 12, Blair 0 - A seven-run first inning propelled the Monarchs to the win.
Emma Dargy, Hannah McCarville, Wallace and Sam Dellinger each blasted bombs in the win with Wallace and Dellinger adding four RBIs. McCarville and Dargy added a pair of RBIs each.
Papillion-La Vista 10, Norfolk 2 - Dellinger hit a pair of long balls to drive in five runs in the win. Alexis Howe added a homer and a pair runs driven in.
McCook 9, Bellevue West 8 - After the Bison scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, the T-birds responded with a run of their own in the eighth. McCook got the last laugh by plating two runs in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
Grace Glotfelty and Hope Bonar each drove in a pair of runs on two hits for the T-birds while Arianna Banks added two RBIs.
Bellevue West 6, Kearney 4 - Sara Fogarty drove in three runs for West while Banks and Bonar added an RBI each.
Lauren Jurek notched the win on the mound by scattering five hits in five innings.
Other results:
Raymond Central 10, Platteview 0 - The Trojans were bounced in the first game of the Nebraska Capitol Cities Conference Tournament with the loss.
Madi McKewon knocked the only hit for Platteview.
Omaha South 12, Platteview 8 - The Trojans scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 8-7 lead by the Packers scored five of their own in the bottom of the sixth to preserve the win.
Rachel Harriman drove in two runs on three hits for Platteview while Mariah Seip,
Sabrina Houston, Abby Svoboda, Brooke Karnik and McKewon each added two hits..
Fort Calhoun 9, Platteview 6 - Anna Kelley and Karnik each had three hits and two runs score to lead the Trojan offense.
Conestoga 15, Platteview 5 - Emily Marsden drove in two runs on a pair of hits for the Trojans. McKewon added two hits.
Omaha Central 8, Bellevue East 2 - Marisa Viramontes knocked a home run for the Chieftains and Kylie Wegner scored their other run.
P-LV South 5, Bellevue East 4 - East scored three in the top of the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback on the Titans.
Madison Finley went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Titans while Sarah Thompson added a pair of RBIs. Finley also picked up the win on the mound with seven strikeouts.
Viramontes had three hits and Darian Mitchell two as the combined for three RBIs for the Chieftains with Wegner adding two base knocks of her own.
Papillion-La Vista 4, P-LV South 3 - The Monarchs edged the Titans for the first time this season.
Julia Andersen drove in two runs on two hits for Papio along with earning the win on the mound. Dellinger and Van Roy added a pair of hits each.
Finley had two hits and an RBI to lead the Titans with Jackie Jaramillo adding a RBI.
Papillion-La Vista 13, Benson 1 - Alicia Baca had a home run and two RBIs to lead the Monarchs and Andersen added a triple.
Papillion-La Vista 12-14, Lincoln North Star 2-3 - The Monarchs dominated the Navigators in the double-header Thursday at the Bair Complex.
Dellinger had six hits, two home runs and four RBIs in the two games with Butera adding five RBIs. Van Roy knocked six hits in the two games to go with three RBIs.
Andersen picked up both wins for the Monarchs.
Waverly 6, Gross 1 - Johnk tripled and was driven in by Hannah Mapes for the only Cougar run.
The Cougars added an 8-1 win over Duchesne on the week.
Ralston 2, Beatrice 1 - Sierra Athow and Taylor Sramek had the two RBIs for the Rams, who won despite only mounting four hits.
Lauren Shymkewicz scattered seven hits in holding the Lady Orange to just one run.
Millard North 2, Ralston 1 - The Rams scored once in the bottom of the seventh but saw the game come to an end with runners stranded on second and third.
Athow provided two hits and an RBI for Ralston while Shymkewicz knocked a double.
Ralston 12, Mercy 0 - The Rams knocked 16 hits in the three innings game.
Athow had three hits to go with a pair of RBIs while Kennedy Greene, Shymkewicz and Randi Henry each added two hits and an RBI. Loren Ochsner drove in two runs.
Ralston 10, South Sioux City 1 - Sramek, Henry, Jordan Tejral and Greene each drove in two runs while Athow led the way with three hits, two for extra bases.
Bellevue West 6, Omaha South 1 - Kaitlyn Buresh drove in two runs and Bonar added three hits for the T-birds. Kortney Buresh, Taylore Imhoff and Banks each drove in a run.
Jurek allowed just one hit to go with eight strikeouts for West on the mound.
